May I introduce myself?
My name is Ralf Pickart, I am the founder of QVISTO Inc. and Nova Scotia Webcam’s webcam wizard.
Born in Germany and immigrated like so many into this wonderful country full of wonderful people. In the meantime I am a proud Canadian.
From the start, I wanted to share the beauty of this province with everyone at home and anywhere in the world. The idea of a webcam website was born. With a background in IT and since I was working in this field as distributor for a German camera manufacturer, this came naturally to me.
It all started in 2005 as a side project as "Halifax Webcam" with one camera overlooking Halifax Harbour. A year later there were already 3 cameras and it grew from there. In 2007 I installed our most iconic view, Peggy's Cove Lighthouse. Then Hall's Harbour, and Digby Harbour.
In 2009 Halifax Webcam rebranded as Nova Scotia Webcams with 25 cameras on board. The side project became a business.
Today, 21 years after camera no. 1, we are the largest webcam network in Canada and operate more than 80 live webcams across the province – from Yarmouth to Meat Cove.
